The Health Benefits of Chicken Meat

Chicken is considered to be a lean meat of high nutritional value. When included in a balanced diet, it will help you stay healthy. This post will describe the reasons why this is true.

The composition of chicken meat allows it to provide us with essential nutrients, in higher concentrations compared to other foods. For instance, protein is very abundant (up to 60%) and with very little collagen, giving the advantage of high digestibility. As an excellent source of amino acids, chicken helps us build muscle and stay strong.

Moreover, studies have shown that high-protein diets (such as those which include chicken) have a satiety-producing effect that helps with weight management.

Another favourable characteristic of chicken is its limited lipid content. Most of the fat is located on chicken skin and therefore is easily removed. A typical piece of chicken breast only contains around 1% fat. When skin is included, this value can rise up to 17%. Nevertheless, fat plays a significant role in diet, and we should be aiming to include 25-35% of total energy as fats.

Chicken meat is an ideal source of vitamin B12 and other B vitamins like niacin.

  1. Thank you for explaining that chicken is a great source of amino acids. I’ve been wondering what kinds of meat I should start adding to my salads. I think that this could be a good option that would round out the nutrition of the meal.
